About Us
Acadian Ambulance's Air Med program was launched in 1981 with one helicopter in Lafayette, Louisiana. The program has grown to a fleet of medically-configured aircraft strategically located in Lafayette, Baton Rouge, Alexandria, Lake Charles, Houma, and Slidell. The fleet also includes two medically configured fixed-wing aircraft for extended transports across the continental United States. All aircraft carry advanced medical equipment and technology to handle transports of a critical nature. When an area is remote or hard to reach, Air Med helicopters are dispatched, responding immediatley to victims of accidents or illness. This includes isolated offshore oil installations in addition to areas where access by ground ambulance is difficult or impossible. Air Med helicopters fly more first-response missions than any other air medical program in the country.
